Class X results out!

CONGRATS TO ALL WHO SCORED BRILLIANTLY IN THE BOARDS!

Most of us scored above 90% which is totally AWESOME! BUT before you start feeling all happy happy again --- Are we nearing the end of an era? A generation where 90% no longer has the same value as it did a few years back? Stats show that as many as 21,002 students(~10.49% of the total students in India) got above 90! Out of these 4,283 are from Delhi! Now we aren't the only 90 percenters. In fact as many as 1,677 students have got above 95%!!!!!!
Has 95% become the next line--- the line which distinguishes between the extra-ordinary and the rest.... or is it still 90%??

Comment Away!

hey guys...this is the first time im posting a comment on dis blog..and ive found a very interesting entry to comment on...i think aayush has a major point but in his own way vibhav has a point too...but in the end when u look at things u have to realize that this is the same board that our parents gave and in their times a 68-75% was considered very good and wat are those kind of marks considered today?...u cnt even get into a good college wit those kind of marks...so after all that discussion it does seem like 90% is the new average...ppl have to get higher than that just to be called an above average student...forget about exceptional...currently we are just in 10th we have another two years to our college admissions and with cut-offs increasing every year (95% this year in some places!!!!!!!!!) its hard to imagine how much the cut-off is going to reach over this span of 2 years...i noe someone who managed to get a 91.6% in her 12th board and still wasnt satisfied...y?...because with those kind of marks she still cudnt get into the college of her choice...this is called complete and utter insanity!!!!!!!

i completely agree with you that our parents gave the same board but then at their time it was much much more subjective and as we all know-sujective portions are very difficult to score in.
nevertheless competition has increased manifold and yes 90% is the line to prove yourself "above average"

You must be mistaken, but surely, 21000 is not 10% of 600000+ students giving the class ten boards this year. Probably you got confused with 200000 which is the no. of students appearing from Delhi region. Anyway, I guess 90% is surely the above-average line, but we must remember that we are also lucky to be studying in one of the best schools of the country. So maybe 90% seems less in comparison to others.

what i dont understand is why people still use marks to determine somebodys intelligence..take the iit entrance for example..there was a kid at fit-JEE who was in one word a genius....and what did he get? rank-13000..but of course he got through to mit, princeton and stanford....and there are ppl who have done extremly well on the boards but their IQ is kinda pathetic..the whole system of detrmining a kids future on one single exam needs to be changed...more and more colleges..(including st. stephens) are getting rid of the cut-off system cause they've finally realized how pathetic it is.

vibhav... i DO NOT agree that icse is more difficult than cbse. i mean ur english maybe more difficult but then our math equalises that... and inthe end it is all more or less equal. and the reason that cbse percentages are higher than icse is probably due to the sheer number of students taking cbse as compared to icse. and abt tht some up board i hv no idea... and well the up word attached to it somehow gives a very different impression.

ipsita... yes i agree that these exams are not the basis to identify a childs intelligence... i mean intelligence is not only mugging up extensive notes in civics and reproducing them in the exam... but at this point this is the only basis to test and COMPARE intelligence levels. that guy may have got 13000 rank in iit coz he must be preparing for SAT not iit... !!!

actually this guy was doing pretty well in Fit-JEE...they claimed..and i quote"even if he goes drunk the day of the test he will be at lest in the top 10"...guess a lot depends on your luck that day..and btw.. if u've finished the course of 11th you dont need to study for the SAT..that would be a complete waste of time.
